"The Art of Social Media" is a compact guide to managing your professional presence online by the big guy marketing specialist and Silicon Valley success story, Guy Kawasaki. (In cooperation with the equally knowledgeable Peg Fitzpatrick.)
I was able to listen to the Audible version of the book within 3 days, and I highly recommend it!
The big idea of the book is that having a successful social media campaign is not something that someone has the perfect formula for, but there are a lot of strategies that you should employ.
I think that most of the over a hundred tips from the book go beyond the scope of the ENT3003 class, but there is still some links to be drawn between the two, specifically relating to social capital and advertising. But I also think that incorporating some of the tips into the ENT3003 syllabus would be pretty cool. Maybe asking students to stick to a full-on upload schedule would be a bit tough, but that's something that comes to mind. Or, at least, we could have assignments that increase our practical online skills, like asking us to create a click-to-Tweet button on a blog post, or set up an automated publishing bot for our social media accounts.
But the biggest 'a-ha!' moment for me from this book is that re-sharing content is crucial to having a sustained social media presence. I never saw it that way before, but now that I do it seems obvious.
I'll definitely have to re-listen to and bookmark this audiobook for future reference.
Hi Adi,
ReplyDeleteGreat reading reflection! I feel like I learned a couple things myself just from reading your post. This is a probably a good sign I should read the book myself. Resharing content as you said does make a lot of sense in growing a social media presence. Thank you for sharing that tip. Overall I think you summarized the book well and I can see why you learned the things you did from the book.
